I’m Jay, and this is the Aprilaire 35 water panel evaporator pad, also known as a humidifier filter. Detailed installation instructions are located on the back of the box.

The water panel is located on the inside of your humidifier, installed within the pad frame, with a color mark on top. It acts like a sponge, holding water which moisturizes the dry air in your home, reducing the negative effects of over-dry air: such as allergy and asthma symptoms, dry nose, itchy skin, cracked/warped wood floors or furniture, and static shocks.

It’s coated with a nontoxic material, designed to assist with the even distribution of water. Over the course of the heating season, minerals build up on the pad, reducing the flow of air and water, reducing its efficiency, and possibly causing water to leak into your furnace. Because of its special coating, it is not cleanable. It must be replaced a minimum of once per season.

Replacement is simple. Here’s how.
Be sure to turn the power off before performing any maintenance.
Before performing this service, it is necessary to shut off the water. Find the saddle valve, turn it clockwise until it stops.

These components are common to most Aprilaire humidifiers. The parts in your model may look slightly different, but the assembly procedure is similar. The plastic components should be washed using mild soap and water prior to replacing the water panel, which must be replaced annually.

On the back of the box, you’ll find clearly printed instructions for all the models. You’ll notice one edge of the water panel has a spray paint mark; that indicates the top. Let’s slide this together. Now, this particular scale control insert has notches cut into it. Those notches line up with the tabs on the distribution tray.

The assembly is now complete. You’ll notice this side has a little notch in it. That side must go towards the inside of the humidifier. This side goes towards the furnace or ductwork.
